As an EP cover artist, I worked with Honeybadger, a high-energy garage punk band from Brighton, to create artwork that matched their raw sound, explosive live shows and growing presence in the music scene. With support from Planet Rock, BBC Radio 1, Radio X and Kerrang! Radio, along with press features in New Noise, CLASH Magazine and Forever Loud, the band needed music artwork design with proper impact.
The EP cover design combines high-impact live performance photos, distressed textures, scratch details and a bold black-and-yellow palette. The result is a piece of album cover artwork that feels raw, energetic and deliberately rough around the edges, capturing the band’s punk, indie rock and grunge-influenced sound.
Creating EP Artwork with Raw Visual Energy
Distressed Punk Aesthetic: The EP cover design looks like an old, crumpled gig poster pulled straight from a club wall, with scratch details and rough textures adding to the worn-in punk feel.
Photo Montage: Using Photoshop masking techniques, I layered multiple live shots into a dynamic composition that captures the band’s movement, noise and stage presence.
Handwritten Typography: The track listing on the back cover was designed to look like scribbled handwriting, raw and edgy, but still subtle enough to let the imagery lead.
Custom CD Artwork: The disc artwork was designed to look like a badly applied sticker, adding another deliberately imperfect detail that ties into the band’s grunge sound and underground feel.
EP Cover and Record Sleeve Design for Honeybadger
Here’s the full-throttle record sleeve I designed for Brighton-based rock band Honeybadger—a chaotic collage of raw gig photography, gritty textures and explosive energy, topped off with a high-impact custom logotype.
The white vinyl adds a clean, unexpected contrast to the riot of black and yellow on the sleeve, giving the whole piece a slick, modern edge while letting the central disc art pop—a perfect visual echo of the band’s loud, dirty, danceable sound.
Music Artwork for Physical and Digital Releases
This EP artwork was created to work across both physical and digital formats, from printed CD sleeves and disc artwork to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and other streaming platforms. As a Spotify artwork designer, I make sure cover artwork remains clear, recognisable and visually striking, even when reduced to a small thumbnail.
For bands and musicians, strong music artwork should work hard across streaming services, social media and physical releases. This project gave Honeybadger a consistent visual identity across every format, helping the release feel bold, memorable and unmistakably theirs.
